Upcoming Study Opportunities:

Resurrection, Salvation, Hope - Adult Sunday School Class

How are they tied to our daily lives now? To the Kingdom of God? These topics are explored in-depth in the Adult Sunday School class at 11:00 a.m. which started Oct. 1. We are studying the book Surprised by Hope by N.T. Wright, one of the world's top Biblical scholars and a Bishop in the Church of England. The book challenges some common notions about these topics and offers a fresh look at this cluster of issues today. All are welcome to join us! We need your fresh ideas and questions to add to our discussions as we journey together. We meet in Rm 7 to the left of the Fellowship Hall. Come anytime. Hope to you see you there!

Wednesday Night Bible Studies

GSUMC's Wednesday Night Bible Studies will resume January 31 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. Child Care is available in the Nursery/Child Care room beginning at 5:55 PM. The study groups are open to anyone in high school and older.

The Ladies Study will meet in the Parlor (new location) led by Kara Paulsen & Pastr Laurie Gates Ward for Jennie Allen's study Restless. Discover a practical plan to identify the threads of your life and how to weave them together for God's glory and purposes. Using the story of Joseph, Jennie explains how his suffering, gifts, story, and relationships fit into the greater story of God-and how your story can do the same. She also introduces Threads - a tool to help you see your own personal story and to uncover and understand the raw materials God has given you to use for his glory and purpose.

The Guys Study, led by Jerome Spencer & Neil Martin will meet in the Chapel (new location) for the Adam Hamilton study Creed. Take an in-depth look at the core beliefs of the Christian faith through the lens of the Apostle's Creed, an early statement of foundational Christian beliefs. Examine the truths that give meaning and purpose to life, why we believe, and why it matters.

Finding Redemption In Our Mess

The 11 a.m. Adult Sunday School class invites everyone to join our Lenten study "Restored: Finding Redemption in Our Mess," based on a book by Tom Berlin. We will look at our mess through the eyes of Christ and focus on the cross as a place where we truly surrender control, leave our mess and brokenness, and find redemption. Come join us in Room 7! See Linda Flanagan (waldorfangel@gmail.com) or Alan Ward (al_can_dance@ hotmail.com) or any class member for more information.

Thursday Morning Bible Study

Summer is coming to an end and on September 14th we will start class again at 9:30 am in the Chapel. We will begin with the book "Hosea: God's Persistent Love" by Dale and Sandy Larson. You may either buy it yourself or let Dottie DiPoli know and she will order it for you. Please read chapter 1 for our first class. If you have any questions call Carolyn Sauer (301) 579-2629. All are welcome and we hope t see everyone for a new year.

Christian Discipleship

Adopt a College Student!

Many of our GS Young Adults are busy with college life, but want to stay connected to their church family! What better way to let them know they are loved and still in our thoughts and prayers than to be in touch with them through mail, email, texts, and a care package or two.... If you want to extend the love and support of our GSUMC family to our young adults, please stop by the Adopt a College Student table in the lobby and sign up!

New Members - Inquirers Class

Are you interested in learning more about Good Shepherd and exploring the possibility of joining our GSUMC family? Please join us on September 17th at 12:30 for a lite luncheon in Room 7 (off the Fellowship Hall)

Our Mission for 2017

Welcome to 2017, "The Year of Servant Leadership" at Good Shepherd. Throughout this year we will explore what it means to serve like Jesus and to lead others to do likewise. A great way to start this journey is by joining one of our new studies starting this month. Women are invited to study "The Inheritance" and men are invited to the study "Christian" both starting January 18th. There will also be a leadership study starting on January 28th and a sermon series to follow called "Serve Like Jesus." Let's commit in the year ahead to be Servant Leaders who understand that to serve others, one must be open to learning and to ever emerging as a leader who serves.

GSUMC Mission Trip: Rebuilding Rainelle

On June 23, 2016 Rainlelle, WV was hit by flood waters that claimed lives and damaged homes and businesses. GSUMC sent a team of 10 to participate with Appalachia Service Project to restore families to their homes.

Discipleship Ministry Team

The Discipleship Ministry Team's purpose is to provide learning experiences for people
of all ages so that they may grow in their understanding of the good news of Jesus Christ
and become better equipped for daily living as faithful disciples.

When the Discipleship Ministry Team meets, it is always open to everyone who wants
to take an active role in helping others grow in their faith. Contact the church office at
(301)843-6797 for more information.

The Bible is the book for all of God's people and the Discipleship Ministry is pleased to place
Bibles on the Welcome Table in the church entrance for anyone who either needs one or knows
someone who needs a Bible. This is just one of the many ways we have of sharing God's Word.
