I'm New

Welcome

Good Shepherd United Methodist Church is a place where people can meet Jesus,  engage in life-giving community, and everyone is welcome. We believe in creating a space where people can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their gifts and use them for God's glory. Join us for our Sunday service!

Sunday Worship

Bring Your Children To Our "Pray-Ground"

Just off the sanctuary, our Pray-Ground gives families a welcoming place to worship together—wiggles and all. Designed with young children and neurodivergent kids in mind, it's a space where little ones can move, play, and use up some of that God-given energy while staying part of the service. So come as you are and stay as you need; your family belongs right here in the heart of worship.

Member Testimonials

"After retiring during the summer of 2025, we began visiting various congregations and exploring denominational traditions. It was difficult to leave the church family we had served for almost 25 years. From the first time we worshiped at GSUMC, we experienced the welcome of God’s people and the hospitality of Christ. The music, the message, the people and the mission of this church have made it a place that we look forward to attending and serving." - Kevin & Debby Holder
Hola! I moved to Maryland with my son and daughter from Puerto Rico in 2019.
The difficulties and challenges we faced in that transition were overwhelming, especially when you do not have family close here. Just God and my faith. Then, I started attending GSUMC and I found again that connection with the Lord, a big family and friends, worship, and real service to the community. We are indeed blessed! - Rose Trinidad-Lopez

I love attending Good Shepherd United Methodist Church because it has given me a place where I can continue growing in my spiritual journey while being welcomed exactly as I am. As an inclusive and affirming church GSUMC creates a community where people are encouraged to live their faith openly and authentically. I appreciate being part of a church family where faith, love and belonging truly matter. - Francine ("Franci") Hill

What To Expect

Where is GSUMC located?
You'll find us on E. Smallwood Drive, just before the Ultra Fuel station and only about four minutes from US-301.
Where should I park?
As you pull in from Smallwood Drive (across from the Ultra Fuel), you'll see a one-way loop with parking on both sides right by the main entrance. If those fill up, there are additional tandem spots a little farther along, plus an extra lot at the front of the church on E. Smallwood Drive. However you arrive, there's a spot for you.
What time should I arrive for Sunday service?
We'd suggest getting here between 9:30 and 10:00 AM. Worship starts at 10:00, and our folks would love to say hello and help you feel at home before things begin.
What should I wear?
Come as you are! Most folks dress casually, so wear whatever's comfortable for you — there's no dress code here.
What should I expect from the service?
Our worship blends praise music and hymns with prayer, offering, and a sermon rooted in scripture. We share communion on the first Sunday of each month. Can't make it in person, or want a feel for things first? You can watch past services anytime on our YouTube channel.
What do we offer for children and youth?
We offer Sunday School for kids from pre-K through 5th grade during worship and for youth at 11:30 a.m. During worship, children are invited up front for Children's Time before heading to their classroom — and every one of our Sunday School teachers has completed a background check. If you'd rather keep your little ones with you, you're welcome to use our Prayground, a space just outside the sanctuary's glass doors where kids and grown-ups can take a sensory break.  We also have youth group and activities for grades 6-12.
Does GSUMC have accommodations for disabilities?
Yes! The church is wheelchair accessible, with handicap parking right by the ramp to the main entrance. The inside is step-free and easy to get around throughout.
What are GSUMC's biggest events?
We've got something going on all year long. A few crowd favorites are the Christmas Cantata, the Apple Dumpling Craft Fair, Vacation Bible School, the Jazz Coffee House, and our dessert auctions.
How do I get connected?
There are lots of ways to jump in! Our church is powered by a number of ministry and service teams. Head over to our committees page to find ways to serve, meet people, and get involved.
Is GSUMC part of the Reconciling Ministries Network?
We're working toward it. The Reconciling Ministries Network is a United Methodist movement committed to welcoming and fully including people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Our Reconciling Team is currently walking through the steps for our congregation to prayerfully decide whether to join.
