Star Words

Star words or star gifts are a practice connected to the celebration of Epiphany, when a star in the sky guided the magi to baby Jesus. For nearly a decade, the practice of sharing words for the new year has been gaining in popularity in Protestant churches. A list of words are shared on paper or online and participants are invited to trust the word they receive as offering guidance for their life in the coming year.

Our January Special Second Offering is the Mary Wattenford Scholarship Fund.

The Mary Wattenford Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 and is a service-based scholarship to award the youth of Good Shepherd for their acts of service to the church, community, and most of all to God.
The scholarship fund was named to honor Mary Wattenford, a dear member of Good Shepherd Church who passed away in July 2004.
Applicants are judged on their responses to questions, their letters of recommendation, and their interviews with the Scholarship Selection Committee.
The scholarship committee is looking for persons with sound Christian character who practice discipleship in daily life and are able to articulate their faith to others.
